Contra-Contraception
Check out the New York Times Magazine for a well structured, comprehensive, rational article by Russell Shorto entitled "Contra-Contraception". In the article Mr. Shorto takes a look at a number of current contraception issues and asks a number of provocative questions. He points out the misguided, not to mention tenuous, link between abortion and the use of any type of contraception. The article also points out that, "the anti-birth control campaign isn't centralized; it seems to be rather part of the evolution of the conservative movement". Particularly compelling is Mr. Shorto's observation of a "convergence of events" such as George W. Bush's victory in 2000, "aided mightily by social conservatives", and the fact that this victory, "came around the same time that the abortion pill and emergency contraception pill reached the market". What is perhaps most fascinating and keeps the reader engaged is that every so often Mr Shorto reveals where half truths & just blatant misconception are being used to bolster the anti-choice side of the debate. There is a great deal of breadth to the article as it illucidates a number of issues. Overall, Contra-Contraception gives a balanced analysis to the many issues surrounding modern contraception.
