HIV/AIDS Advocacy Day
HIV Advocacy Day was an opportunity for the North Carolina AIDS Action Network (NCAAN) to activate the grassroots on important HIV/AIDS policy issues. We had at least 70 attendees who met with legislators to talk about increasing prevention funding as well as increasing the number of people who qualify for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program which provides life-sustaining medications to people who cannot afford it. The lobby day was accompanied by a press conference and an advocacy training. Having people there who were directly impacted by ADAP was extremely powerful. The Advocacy Day resulted in raising the ADAP eligibity, which was previously the lowest in the nation. Volunteers at the HIV Advocacy Day Registration table
